White Doves Pair For Life

How long does it take them to get home? They have an amazing instinct and are very intelligent being able to recognise local landmarks to help them navigate and can cover distance at great speed. However, depending on the distance from home we will not release them late afternoon especially in the winter months with the shorter days. This is because like many birds they can’t see as well in poor light conditions. Are they messy, what if they have an accident on a guest? We limit their food the night before an event to lessen the chances of this happening but although they are very clean birds it’s still a slim possibility. They do say it’s good luck though….and wet wipes are on hand just in case.

Beautiful White Doves for Weddings in Yorkshire

Dove Welfare

Our white doves are descendants of Rock Doves and enjoy living a natural, free and happy life on our family farm in Halifax, West Yorkshire. In order that they develop into strong birds they are fed the very best diet of mixed corn, vitamins, minerals and grits. They fly free during the day and are secured at night from predators and the British climate. These birds have an extremely powerful homing instinct and seem to really enjoy the challenge of being released and finding their way home. We train them locally before sending them on any longer journeys. Upon release they will circle around a few times to get a bearing and then they’re off! They are always home by the time we return.Purebred ‘Doves’ and ‘Fantails’ do not have the homing instinct and if released would very quickly succumb to predators and starvation so please avoid using anyone advertising such a service as it is cruel and inhumane.Did You Know? The lifespan of dove is 15-33 yrs.
Doves can fly up to 40-50 miles per hour. In a day they can fly a distance of 600 miles.
The doves mate for life and take turns to sit on the eggs.
Doves lay eggs 4-5 times a year and the gestation period is 16-19days.
Until the baby doves learn to eat food the parent feeds them a milk like liquid called CROP MILK from its body.
The babies use their nose as straw to suck up the milk.
