Arranging a release

How much does a dove release cost?

A pair of white doves starts from £180, with additional doves at £15 each. This is a guide; we confirm the final price after checking your date, venue and requirements.

Can you come to a crematorium or graveside?

Yes. Releases can be arranged outside crematoria, at burial grounds, churches, woodland burial sites and other suitable outdoor venues, subject to permission and safe conditions. We can coordinate the timing with your funeral director or celebrant.

Can family members release the doves?

Yes. A gentle hand release can be arranged, or the birds can be released from a basket. Mark will explain the simple handling steps on the day.

What happens in bad weather?

The birds’ welfare comes first. They are not released in heavy rain, dense fog or strong winds, or when there is too little daylight to return safely. We will discuss the options with you if conditions are unsuitable.

Do the doves come home?

Our trained white homing birds return to their loft in Halifax. We plan each release around the location, daylight and weather so they can make the journey safely.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Halifax and usually cover around a 25-mile radius, including Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield, with other Yorkshire and nearby locations considered on request.

How far in advance should I ask?

Please get in touch as soon as you know the date, including for short-notice funerals. We check each request individually because bird numbers and other releases vary from day to day.

Can I request a certain number of birds?

Yes. Start with two and add as many as feel appropriate. Let us know your preferred number and we will check how many trained birds are available for that date and location.

Can you release doves for a birthday or wedding?

Yes. We occasionally arrange white dove releases for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other meaningful daytime events.

Are you insured?

The current Yorkshire Dove Release site states that the business has public liability insurance. Please ask Mark if you or your venue need current policy details.

What if a release cannot go ahead?

Safety and welfare determine whether a release can proceed. The current service policy says a full refund is offered when weather prevents a safe release. Mark will confirm the terms for your booking before you commit.

Bird welfare matters

They always
come first.

Our white birds are trained homing birds, selected because they can return to their loft. We plan each release around daylight, distance and weather, and do not release birds in conditions that put them at risk. Ornamental breeds without a homing instinct should never be released.

If the weather looks unsuitable, we will speak with you about what is possible. We will never promise a release before checking the practical details.
