Funeral & memorial dove releases in Yorkshire

A peaceful farewell, beautifully handled.

A white dove release offers a quiet moment of remembrance after a funeral, at a graveside, or during a memorial. We will help you arrange it simply and sensitively.

White doves flying at a memorial service
A moment of remembrance

When words are
hard to find.

Watching white doves rise into the sky can be a gentle way for family and friends to say goodbye together. Some families choose a pair to represent a lasting bond. Others invite relatives to release more birds, or prefer a single shared basket release. There is no prescribed way to do it: we will listen to what feels right for you.

Yorkshire Dove Release is a family-run service based in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Mark personally discusses the arrangements, checks that the release is suitable for the location and birds, and guides everyone calmly on the day. We can work with your funeral director, celebrant or venue to plan a natural place for the release in the order of service.

Releases can take place outside a crematorium, at a cemetery or graveside, at a church, a woodland burial site, or at another suitable outdoor place. We will confirm permission and practical details with you. A later memorial or celebration of life can also be a fitting time.

questions.

We are happy to answer anything you are unsure about.

How much does a dove release cost?

A pair of white doves starts from £180, with additional doves at £15 each. This is a guide; we confirm the final price after checking your date, venue and requirements.

Can you come to a crematorium or graveside?

Yes. Releases can be arranged outside crematoria, at burial grounds, churches, woodland burial sites and other suitable outdoor venues, subject to permission and safe conditions. We can coordinate the timing with your funeral director or celebrant.

Can family members release the doves?

Yes. A gentle hand release can be arranged, or the birds can be released from a basket. Mark will explain the simple handling steps on the day.

What happens in bad weather?

The birds’ welfare comes first. They are not released in heavy rain, dense fog or strong winds, or when there is too little daylight to return safely. We will discuss the options with you if conditions are unsuitable.

Do the doves come home?

Our trained white homing birds return to their loft in Halifax. We plan each release around the location, daylight and weather so they can make the journey safely.
